Leadership: Promotes school activities, upholds school ideals, contributes to the improvement of school civic life, exemplifies positive attitudes in others, and holds positions of responsibility in school activities and organizations.

Service: Maintains a loyal school attitude, volunteers dependable service to the school and community in extracurricular activities in a positive manner, and works well with others in accomplishing class and school tasks.

Character: Takes contructive criticism graciously, exemplifies desirable qualities of behavior (cheerful, friendly, honest, reliable, courteous, respectful, punctual), and complies with school and society regulations.

Requirements:

In order to be considered an active member of NHS, each student must fulfill the following requirements:

20 service hours required each school year. At least 6 must be tutoring and 5 must be with an NHS sponsored activity. Senior Service Logs must be submitted to the NHS secretary on or before April 15. Junior Service Logs must be turned in by the last meeting of the year.
Maintain a 3.5 grade point average. Member's grades and discipline records will be checked periodically by the advisor and/or principal.
Make a conscious effort to uphold the intergrity of the club. Members who receive a discipline referral for any infraction including in the community will have their status as an active member reviewed by the Faculty Council.
Attend monthly meetings.

Failure to adhere to any of the above requirements may jeopardize a student's status as an active member of NHS. Only active members are permitted to wear the NHS cords during commencement activities. Certain violations may warrant complete dismissal from NHS. A student who is dismissed or resigns may never again become a NHS member. A student who wishes to appeal the Faculty Council's decision will comply with the Cadillac Area Public School Board's grievance procedure.
